This is the Junior Lifeguard Award (JLA) where they are tested physically in skill and endurance, in competency in sea rescue techniques and together with life saving protocols, including CPR.
Once completed, JLA’s become eligible to work on the beach as Volunteer Lifeguards and participate in local and national Lifesaving Competitions.
Lifeguard training for all active and competitive lifeguards takes place on Fridays and Sundays in season.
In order to enrol in the Junior course, prospective candidates need to be proficient swimmer and will have to undergo an entry test comprising of a pool swim.
Complete a 400m pool swim in under 9 minutes.
Complete a 200m Run – 200m Swim – 200m run in under 10 minutes.
